Our History

In the late 1940's Evelyn Overton opened a small cheesecake shop in Detroit. In order to raise her two small children, David and Renee, Evelyn gave up the shop and moved her baking to her basement kitchen, where she continued supplying local restaurant clients with her cakes. Then in 1972, with her children grown, Evelyn and her husband Oscar decided to move the business to Los Angeles. Oscar concentrated on selling cakes and building new accounts while Evelyn baked and managed the office. Finding that Los Angeles loved Evelyn's cheesecakes as much as Detroit, their reputation and sales grew! A larger, new and improved bakery was born, creating over 20 varieties of Evelyn's delicious cheesecakes and other incredible desserts which were sold to wholesalers from Santa Barbara to San Diego and eventually out of state. In 1978, the Overtons founded the first full service restaurant, "The Cheesecake Factory," which opened in Beverly Hills, California. Today, Evelyn and Oscar's son, David carries on the same commitment to quality, entrepreneurial spirit, energy and creativity that his parents inspired.

In 1992, The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated became a publicly held, NASDAQ traded (symbol:CAKE) corporation operating upscale, casual dining restaurants nationwide. Each location has its own distinctive architecture and stylish decor with superior service and an extensive menu of over 200-plus items offering generous portions at moderate prices. The company also operates two bakery production facilities that produce over 50 varieties of its signature cheesecakes and other baked goods for sale through the restaurants and other food service operators and distributors. In 1999, at the request of the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated created a second upscale casual dining restaurant Grand Lux Cafe. Today, The Cheesecake Factory has close to 150 restaurant locations.

Bakery Opportunities:

Our 2 Bakery facilities really keep things cooking for The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated. Strategically located on both the east coast in Rocky Mount, NC and on the west coast in Calabasas Hills, CA these facilities provide our restaurants and multiple wholesalers, retailers and distributors with our bakery products. At our state-of-the-art bakery production facilities we produce approximately 70 varieties of cheesecake based on our proprietary recipes.
